Here is another great article about AI being used to change film history, and not in the good way. Parts of the age old classic, The Wizard of Oz is being shown at the Sphere in Las Vegas. AI was used to change this movie, to show things happening outside of the normal 4:3 ratio the film was originally filmed in, and though this is an interesting project, they could have hired real artists to create the parts that were added to the movie. Personally, I think this is just a gimmick, modification of a film my family watched annually on television. I would not pay over 200 bucks to see a movie that has wind blowing and a near spherical presentation. This is actually worse than what Ted Turner did in the 80’s colorizing films originally made in black and white.
I must admit I do have a blu-ray copy of the Wizard of Oz that has a 3D conversion, but other than the post production 3D, the film was unchanged, and it’s artistry preserved.
